  Chapter 46: JACOB’S JOURNEY In this chapter: Ø   Jacob and all his house/hold set out on a journey down to   Egypt Ø   Along the way, at Beersheba, he offers sacrifices to God and God speaks to him about the journey Ø   We are told of the specifics of what and who Jacob brought along on his way to Egypt. Ø   The names of Jacob’s kin that accompany him are listed for each of Jacob’s four wives. Ø   Jacob’s family and entourage arrives in Goshen. Ø   Joseph travels to Goshen to meet the family there Ø   Joseph goes to Pharaoh to inform him of his kinsmen arrival and negotiate for them the land of Goshen Ø   Joseph advises the family to inform Pharaoh, when asked by him, that they are shepherds Ø   This chapter is the beginning of a significant phase of a 400-year period of the history of the nation of Israel, Jacob’s descendants.   CHAPTER 45: I AM JOSEPH In this chapter: ü   Joseph can no longer keep the big secret from his brothers, having being overcome with love for them. ü   Joseph declares to his brothers “I am Joseph” and the brothers are dismayed and lost for words at this. ü   Joseph explains to them that they ought not to be distressed because of their heinous act of selling him as a slave to Egypt. ü   Joseph explained that it was by God’s plan that he ended up in Egypt for the sake of saving his brothers as well as many more people (great deliverance) ü   Joseph instructs his brothers to go and get their father from Canaan and bring over together with his entire household into Egypt under Joseph’s care. ü   The report about Joseph’s brothers arrival reach Pharaoh and who, in turn, sends a warm invitation for the entire family of Jacob to come over to Egypt and enjoy the best of the land of Egypt. ü   Pharaoh actually commands Joseph to have the brothers giv...

  CHAPTER 44: THE TEST OF LOVE In this chapter: Ø The brothers are ready to return home with grain supplies after a great hospitality in Egypt Ø   Joseph orders that the get their sacks filled with as much as they can carry and their monies secretly put back in the sacks Ø   Joseph also orders that his silver cup also be placed secretly   in Benjamin’s sack Ø   The brothers depart at the break of dawn, but after travelling a short distance, Joseph orders his steward to go after them and accuse them of stealing Joseph’s silver cup(of divination) Ø   The brothers quickly deny any wrong doing and swear to have the culprit cup thief killed and the rest serve as slaves of the ruler of Egypt, in case the cup was to be found with them Ø   Unfortunately, the cup is found in Benjamin’s sack.
